CFC Takes a Firm Stance Against 12-to-6 Elbow Strikes

At Centurion Fighting Championship (CFC), the safety and well-being of our athletes are of paramount importance. In line with our commitment to uphold the highest standards in mixed martial arts, we are officially prohibiting the use of 12-to-6 elbow strikes in all CFC-sanctioned events.

Understanding the 12-to-6 Elbow Strike

The 12-to-6 elbow strike refers to a downward motion where the elbow moves from a 12 o’clock position directly down to a 6 o’clock position, often targeting the top of an opponent’s head. While some may view it as a legitimate technique, the potential dangers associated with this strike are significant and cannot be overlooked.

The Risks Involved

One of the primary concerns with the 12-to-6 elbow strike is the high risk of unintentionally striking the back of the opponent’s head. The back of the head is a vulnerable area where impacts can lead to severe injuries, including concussions, spinal damage, or even life-threatening conditions. Such injuries not only jeopardize an athlete’s career but can also have long-term health implications.

Moreover, the force generated by a downward elbow strike is substantial due to the combined effects of gravity and the short distance over which the force is applied. This increases the likelihood of causing serious harm, making the technique disproportionately dangerous compared to its potential competitive advantages.

A Message from CFC President Roberto Gallo

CFC President Roberto Gallo has emphasized the organization’s dedication to athlete safety with the following statement:

“Today, mixed martial arts fighters are already subject to substantial risks due to the nature of the sport. We find the 12-to-6 elbow strike absolutely unnecessary, as it exposes athletes to the danger of striking the back of the head with significant force. This can lead to severe health repercussions, potentially taking away years from a fighter’s professional career and even affecting their life beyond the sport. Therefore, CFC is firm in its decision to prohibit this strike.”

Our Commitment to a Safer Sport

By banning the 12-to-6 elbow strike, CFC aims to minimize unnecessary risks and promote a safer competitive environment. We believe that the excitement and integrity of mixed martial arts can be preserved without compromising the health and longevity of our athletes.

Moving Forward

We encourage all fighters, coaches, and fans to understand and support this decision. The evolution of our sport depends on balancing the thrill of competition with the responsibility of safeguarding those who make it possible.
